Buildings & Grounds

To date the Buildings & Grounds Department maintains six buildings (including the Highway Department garage) and five additional off-site properties spread throughout the town.

At any time during the work week and season, Buildings & Grounds staff members can be seen maintaining these locations good weather or bad.

Staff members handle all facets of interior and exterior light to moderate housekeeping and mechanical repairs ranging from janitorial to space construction and mechanical systems upkeep.

The most dynamic facility under Buildings & Grounds care is the Queensbury Activity Center. This building alone handles all Town, Planning, Zoning and public meetings along with a very active seniors schedule ranging from morning aerobics to lunches and group meetings. At any time Staff must be ready to either setup or break down activity center functions to make room for the next scheduled program.

Recently Buildings & Grounds has accepted the challenge to maintain the decorative light poles along Route 9 at the Lake George outlets as well as the decorative light poles on the main street corridor from exit 18 east to the Glens Falls Line and finally the new rotary on Aviation Road. This totals over 124 light poles. Teamed with Highway Department staff and equipment, issues are resolved as quickly as possible.

With the creation of Media Drive, Buildings and Grounds has also been tasked to maintain both the bus stop and information kiosk on either end of the drive.

The Buildings & Grounds Department has many accomplishments to be proud of and they will be ready for whatever challenges arise in the coming years.
