Summer in Queensbury is fully upon us, with all the best of what the region has to offer, festivities and events, plenty of recreation opportunities, and hot weather! But let’s admit it…it’s been really hot this summer, so we came up with some suggestions for staying cool and havin’ fun this summer!

You will be hard pressed to find a more awesome outdoor swimming pool in the area than the one at Gurney Lane Recreation Area! Located just off Exit 20 of the Adirondack Northway, this awesome 6200 sq. ft. pool has a diving well, a slide, and is nestled in a beautifully scenic location. This summer gem also has a bath house, a concession stand, basketball, a playground and more.

Discover the Hudson River

The mighty Hudson River offers opportunities for fishing, boating, picnicking and more. In Queensbury, Hudson River Park offers great access to a 6-mile stretch of the river. There’s is a free boat launch site, ball courts, a picnic shelter with a playground and a fishing dock. And yes, you can bring your dog, but it must be leashed at all times! (You can also explore the Hudson River from the Feeder Canal park, the Hudson Pointe Nature Preserve.)

Catch A Show

There’s nothing like a cool, comfortable movie theater on a really hot day! Catch a flick in Queensbury at the Regal Aviation Mall 7 located on Aviation Road right off Exit 19 in the Aviation Mall. In downtown Glens Falls, the 190 Grille & Cinema has dinner and a movie, where you can dine and enjoy a great flick. At the end of the day you can sit back as the day cools down, relax and enjoy a classic drive-in movie at the Glen Drive In Theater!

There’s nothing like the feeling you get when you walk into a cool, quiet library mid-summer! We have incredible libraries in our area, beginning with Crandall Public Library in Glens Falls! This beautiful library offers all types of programs and services, not to mention multiple floors of books, music and movies waiting to be discovered and enjoyed! If you’re a library lover, The Richards Library in nearby Warrensburg and the Caldwell-Lake George Library in Lake George are definitely list-worthy!
